Labor, Non Labor and Material Resource in P6
There are three types of resources that are used in Primavera P6 Release 8. The labor resources are the people needed to complete an activity within the project. For instance, a labor resource is a project manager, architect, carpenter, or welder. These resources are can be reused throughout the project and can have more than one role. In Primavera P6 Release 8, the cost of these resources are measured in units of time.
The next type of resource in Primavera P6 Release 8 is nonlabor or equipment. Nonlabor resources can be any piece of equipment that aids in the completion of an activity. These resources are reusable and can range from dump trucks to deep sea drilling tools and other heavy machinery. Nonlabor resources are also measured in units of time.
The final type of resource in Primavera P6 Release 8 is a material resource. Material resources are the consumables needed to complete a project. A material resource can be the concrete needed to build a foundation, the metal beams that hold up a house or the electric wiring that run through a building. Material resources are not reusable and are usually defined in terms other than time, such as total amount consumed.
The best way to consider which to use is to keep in mind that Labor and Non-Labor (machinery, equipment, etc.) can't have different units of measure.
Labor and Non-Labor units of measure are only by time (hours, days, etc).
Materials units of measure can be by anything you setup in the Admin Categories; such as, feet, cubic yards, etc.
